Petarus ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the Petarus platform and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials.

Pet Profile Data: Information you enter about your pets, including names, species, breed, date of birth, weight, photos, vaccination records, medical history, medications, allergies, microchip numbers, emergency contacts, care instructions, insurance policy details, and uploaded documents.

Provider Profile Data: If you register as a Provider, we collect your business name, service type, address, license number, and subscription billing information (via Stripe — we do not store card numbers).

Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, and share link activity logs.

Device and Technical Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers collected automatically when you access the Service.

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the Service
• Enable you to store, manage, and share your pet's records
• Process Provider subscription payments through Stripe
• Send transactional emails (account verification, password reset, billing receipts)
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
• Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information or your pet's health data to third parties.

With Providers you choose: When you generate a share link or scan a Provider's QR code, you explicitly choose to share specific pet records with that Provider. You control exactly what is shared and for how long. We facilitate this sharing but do not control what Providers do with information after it is accessed.

With service providers: We use trusted third-party services to operate the platform, including cloud storage (Amazon S3), payment processing (Stripe), and AI services. These providers are contractually required to handle your data securely and only as directed by us.

For legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Petarus, our users, or the public.

Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.

When you use the AI Smart Import feature, uploaded documents (PDFs and images) are transmitted to an AI processing service to extract structured information. Uploaded files are stored in our secure cloud storage. The AI service processes your document to extract text and data but does not retain your document for training purposes beyond the immediate extraction task.

You should not upload documents containing sensitive information beyond what is necessary for pet record management (e.g., avoid uploading documents with your full Social Security Number or unrelated personal financial data).

We retain your account and pet data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes. Share link access logs may be retained for up to 90 days for security purposes.

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage, access controls, and secure authentication. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. We recommend enabling two-factor authentication, which is available in your account security settings.

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information in your account at any time
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Portability: Request an export of your pet records in a standard format
• Revoke sharing: Deactivate any share link at any time from your pet's profile

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We use session cookies to maintain your authentication state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or behavioral tracking technologies. Analytics data (page views, feature usage) is collected in aggregate to improve the Service and does not identify individual users.

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through Petarus.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will provide additional notice via email or an in-app notification.
